Your cookie choice
Accept enables Google Analytics; Decline leaves it disabled. Use Cookie settings at the bottom of any page to change your choice. The choice is stored in your browser’s local storage until you change it or clear site data. Analytics cookies include names beginning with _ga. We do not enable Google Signals or advertising personalisation in our analytics configuration. Declining does not prevent enquiries or downloads.
Google Analytics retention depends on its property settings; cookie lifetimes and retained reports are not the same thing. You can delete browser cookies at any time. See Google’s explanation of partner-site data. Cookie consent is not agreement to every activity described in this policy.
PDF notifications
These server-side notifications are separate from Google Analytics and do not depend on accepting analytics cookies. They do not identify a downloader by name or confirm that a file was saved. City estimates may reflect a VPN or network provider. The server uses an IP-derived hash briefly to group repeated requests; it does not include that hash or the full IP in the email. We do not use these notices for individual advertising or combine them into visitor profiles. You may object to this processing by contacting us. You can also use the Speaker Kit, Speaker Biography and Talk Abstracts direct file links, which bypass these email notifications; ordinary hosting requests still occur.
Embedded services
Google Calendar and Maps load automatically when you open a page containing the calendar and map block, independently of your analytics cookie choice. Your browser connects to Google, which receives network information including your IP address and may use cookies under Google’s Privacy Policy. See also How Google uses data. Hiding the block or leaving the page does not erase information Google has already received.
Vimeo provides the embedded video player. We use its Do Not Track setting (dnt=1) to limit player analytics and cookies. Vimeo still receives network requests; security-related cookies and cookies already present in your browser may apply. See Vimeo’s Privacy Policy. Our own video-engagement events are sent to Google Analytics only with your analytics consent.
Swarm/Foursquare supplies Mykola’s shared check-in to our server. Your browser does not contact Swarm to display that check-in, and we do not forward your visitor details to the feed. The automatically loaded map is a separate Google service from this server-side check-in source.
Cloudflare Turnstile helps protect the contact form from automated abuse and processes technical security signals. See Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.
Search engines and AI crawlers
Server-level traffic reports may distinguish search crawlers and AI bots using request information, such as user-agent identifiers and provider verification. They help us understand site discoverability and errors. They are separate from visitor cookie analytics. A crawler request does not prove that a page was indexed, used for training or cited in an AI answer; reported identities and counts can be incomplete.
Recipients and international processing
We use OpenAI Sites for hosting, Cloudflare for delivery, security and email sending, Google for optional analytics and Google embeds, Vimeo for videos, and our email service for receiving and responding to enquiries. Information is disclosed to the providers needed for these purposes, and where legally required to authorities or professional advisers. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
We are based in the United States; service providers may also process data there or in other countries. Where GDPR transfer safeguards are required, applicable provider arrangements must supply an appropriate mechanism, such as standard contractual clauses or an applicable adequacy decision. Contact us for information about the safeguards applicable to your data. This policy does not claim that every provider or transfer is covered by the same mechanism.
How long information is kept
We retain enquiries while needed to answer them and manage the resulting relationship. Correspondence associated with a contract, payment, legal obligation or dispute may need to be kept longer. We review operational download notices separately from business correspondence and remove those no longer needed to assess demand. No automatic mailbox deletion period is represented here.
Application rate-limit records have short expiries: PDF deduplication identifiers expire after two minutes, and other limits within approximately a day; expired rows are cleared during subsequent relevant requests. Hosting logs and provider-held information follow the relevant service settings and retention arrangements. Contact us for the current retention information applicable to your enquiry or request.
Your rights
Depending on the law that applies, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of your personal data, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may withdraw analytics consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing. Contact [email protected]; we normally respond within one month to GDPR requests and may need to verify your identity. You may also complain to your competent data-protection authority.
We do not make decisions about you with legal or similarly significant effects through automated profiling. Please do not include sensitive personal information in contact messages. We update this policy when our practices change.
