Original Human Agency is Mykola Latansky’s philosophical proposal about our participation in the purposes and actions that shape our lives. It concerns how we form, examine, revise and enact our reasons while remaining answerable for the direction we adopt.

A person can approve a decision without having meaningfully shaped it. Someone else—or an AI system—may have defined the problem, selected the options and supplied the criteria by which they are judged. The final approval alone does not tell us how much authorship the person exercised.

Authorship across the process

Consider a professional choosing a new direction. AI might suggest a career, explain why it is attractive and generate a plan. The question is how the person engages with that proposal: examining its assumptions, considering what matters, challenging the criteria and revising the direction when necessary.

Within this account, augmented agency describes assistance that expands our capacities while sustaining our authorship. Derivative agency describes increasingly following purposes and evaluative frames we have not sufficiently examined.

A relationship to our choices

Original Human Agency does not require isolation from other people or tools. It asks how we participate in the influences we receive. Can we explain our reasons, reconsider them and take responsibility for what follows?

This inquiry extends Genialism™ into human–AI collaboration. Continue with how AI can shape the goals we choose.
